The Andalé 8 Channel Programmable Firing Box
The Andalé is the latest project in a lineage of firing devices that accurately time and sequence air cannons and solenoids with other effects. This firing box has unique features: it operates in parallel (rather than in series sequence) and each channel has a unique Delay Time and On Time programmed by the operator.
The Andalé is fired by holding down the Firing Button (not supplied) - causing the the Main Counter to run. When the Main Counter reaches a channel's Delay Time, that channel fires and stays triggered until its On Time counts down to zero, then is shut off. The Main Counter continues to run, firing all the channels when their Delay Time elapses and for the duration their On Time. Each channel operates independantly of all others.
The Andalé is perfect for sequencing effects that take different times to reach maturity; i.e. an air cannon and a Z-17 spark. If the two are wired together, the Z-17 will spark and a beat later the slow air cannon solenoid will fire. With the Andalé the operator programs the air cannon to fire 0.25 seconds before the spark; to the camera, both effects appear at the same time. The possibilities are endless: hydraulic and pneumatic valves, electric actuators and motors can all be coordinated quickly and simply.
The Andalé is programmed in 1/100th increments, and accurate to 1/1000th of a second. The sequence on the Backlit LCD screen is written to an internal EEPROM memory that retains the sequence even if the unit is shut off or its batteries removed.
Multiple Andalés can be hooked together and operate simultaneously - simply patch the Firing Button banana plugs in parallel. Multiple units can use different power supplies, allowing the operator to mix 12V and 120V solenoids for example.
